Forklift Safety from Decker Forklifts

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Today we are going to talk about our most important priority which is safety. Forklifts are extremely dangerous machines and there are many injuries and fatalities nationwide as a result of both negligence and lack of training. It is an OSHA law that each forklift operator is trained and certified prior to operating a forklift. This becomes an important factor if there is an injury and both the operators and management can be fined by OSHA if this is not taken care of. We at Decker Forklifts train all of customers and operators at their request and we have a certified trainer in house we will train them both at your location or ours in our conference room with lunch provided.  Please take a look at the certificate that is awarded to those who successfully completed the class.  The class is taught with both hands on and classroom information. The hands on information is very practical and through in speaking about the sights of line, sights of vision, sounds, being aware of all the different activities going on in the area such as pedestrians as well as many of the most common accidents that may occur on the forklift. The classroom is taught with video as well as brochures and at the end of the class the drivers are all tested to make sure they are competent in these areas.  As soon as the forklift operators begins after the class is taught, further day to day training is required due to the complex nature of operating a forklift. Thank you very much and please call Decker Forklifts for any of your forklift purchase or training needs.

Investing the right amount of money in a forklift that runs properly can be the difference in a bottom line.

There are many decisions that need to be made while considering a piece of equipment such as a forklift. Do you buy new or used? There are many good used forklifts that are in the market place and if the up keep and maintenance are checked daily, having a good running used forklift in your warehouse can prove to be another employee.

So what forklift is right for you? What Aisle type of forklift are you looking for?

Wide Aisle: This is a typical, standard type of forklift that is designed to work in aisles that are greater than 11′ wide.

Narrow Aisle: The truck associated with this is the Reach Truck. The Reach truck usually operates best in an aisle 8′-10′ wide.

Very Narrow Aisle: Turret Trucksare the best when the aisle is less than 6′ and usually requires a guidance system while working.

Consider why a used forklift can help with everyday productivity. While lifting, hosting and moving heavy loads from one place to another in an efficient timely manner, having a forklift that can help with the labor will be a good thing.
