Different Forklift Tires

September 28th, 2009

There are three different types of forklift tires.

  • Solid
  • Pneumatic
  • Polyurethane

The solid forklift tire is completely made from rubber. These tires are good for the fact that they do not pop or become deflated. These tires last for a long time and should mostly be used inside.

Pneumatic tires are similar to the ones you find on a heavy duty truck and are filled with air. These forklift tires are made with strong rubber that is thick and has deep tread to help with resistance and wear and tear. Pneumatic tires help extend the life of the truck by providing a cushion of air between the vehicle and the terrain on which it is working. These tires are durable and tough.

The Polyurethane forklift tires should only be used indoors and they provide the operator with the right amount of traction. To install these wheels, they need to be pressed on the wheel of the Tuck and they are ready to go. These tires have the best output for electric forklifts.

Forklift Tires

September 23rd, 2009

There are so many different forklifts for so many different purposes. Each forklift offers something different but in order for the forklift to perform effectively and efficiently, each forklift needs to be fitted with the right type of forklift tires.

Each different tire has their own advantages and disadvantages.  Depending on the forklift and the situation the lift is used in, there are three main type of forklift tires:

  • Solid
  • Pneumatic
  • Polyurethane

The tires on a forklift will either be pressed on or standard. If a forklift has press on tires, the forklift will be suited for inside work and a forklift with a standard tire will be more suited for outdoors.

Forklift Questions & Answers

September 21st, 2009

Below are some common questions regarding forklifts:

Must employees be trained to drive forklifts? YES, all employees operating a forklift must be trained. There are three categories that need to be addressed. There is a general, classroom type training, a practical, hands on training and a visual evaluation of the operator’s skill.

Is it mandatory to have a professional trainer on staff? NO, anybody who has the knowledge and experience can evaluate forklift operations and conduct training.

Is there a license or certification required to operate a forklift? Forklift operator certifications are generally good for 2-3 years, but each operator should have an evaluation of their performance during the initial training and then refresher training after the initial training. Forklift training certification, OSHA approved, provides the operator with an understanding of the safe and efficient operation of forklifts while complying with OSHA regulations.

For any type of warehouse, manufacturing, lumberyard, or factory, a forklift can make any process run smoother. What are some criteria to think about when looking to purchase a forklift.

  1. Make sure the forklift performs exactly as you expect the machine to. Check all the lights, tires, seat, etc. to make sure they are working properly. Understand what you are looking for in a forklift. Understand your own specifications, what are you using the forklift for? Where are you using the forklift, inside or outside? How big is the load that the forklift is going to handle? Understanding all these guidelines will help in purchasing the right forklift for your needs.
  2. Understanding the specifications you need will help determine what type of forklift you need. What is the load specifications. How many hours a day are you going to use the forklift?
  3. What is the site of your warehouse and the aisles? How big is your operating area? Are your aisles or space wide or narrow? This will help determine the type of machine  you should be looking at.

Forklift Safety from Decker Forklifts

August 27th, 2009

Today we are going to talk about our most important priority which is safety. Forklifts are extremely dangerous machines and there are many injuries and fatalities nationwide as a result of both negligence and lack of training. It is an OSHA law that each forklift operator is trained and certified prior to operating a forklift. This becomes an important factor if there is an injury and both the operators and management can be fined by OSHA if this is not taken care of. We at Decker Forklifts train all of customers and operators at their request and we have a certified trainer in house we will train them both at your location or ours in our conference room with lunch provided.  Please take a look at the certificate that is awarded to those who successfully completed the class.  The class is taught with both hands on and classroom information. The hands on information is very practical and through in speaking about the sights of line, sights of vision, sounds, being aware of all the different activities going on in the area such as pedestrians as well as many of the most common accidents that may occur on the forklift. The classroom is taught with video as well as brochures and at the end of the class the drivers are all tested to make sure they are competent in these areas.  As soon as the forklift operators begins after the class is taught, further day to day training is required due to the complex nature of operating a forklift. Thank you very much and please call Decker Forklifts for any of your forklift purchase or training needs.

Forklifts can help your warehouse business grow

August 6th, 2009

Trying to help the productivity of employees in your warehouse can be a tricky task. However, having the right equipment to help those employees be productive can help. Forklifts can help move merchandise in a timely manner. When employees save time, businesses save money. Investing the right amount of money in a forklift that runs properly can be the difference in a bottom line.

There are many decisions that need to be made while considering a piece of equipment such as a forklift. Do you buy new or used? There are many good used forklifts that are in the market place and if the up keep and maintenance are checked daily, having a good running used forklift in your warehouse can prove to be another employee.

So what forklift is right for you? What Aisle type of forklift are you looking for?

Wide Aisle: This is a typical, standard type of forklift that is designed to work in aisles that are greater than 11′ wide.

Narrow Aisle: The truck associated with this is the Reach Truck. The Reach truck usually operates best in an aisle 8′-10′ wide.

Very Narrow Aisle: Turret Trucksare the best when the aisle is less than 6′ and usually requires a guidance system while working.

Consider why a used forklift can help with everyday productivity. While lifting, hosting and moving heavy loads from one place to another in an efficient timely manner, having a forklift that can help with the labor will be a good thing.

If you have questions regarding what type of forklift is good for you, contact Decker Forklifts.
